Jane McGirk

Jane McGirk, MSc PR, MCIPR – Director, McGirk PR Ltd

Jane McGirk is a founder and Director of McGirk PR Ltd. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and has a Masters Degree in Public Relations from Stirling University in Scotland. She is a Fellow of the Industry and Parliament Trust.

With more than twenty years of hands-on experience working in the media and public relations, Jane understands the drivers and key issues involved in protecting and enhancing reputations. She has direct experience of both external and internal communications management and has managed the PR associated with several large change management programmes and real-life crisis management situations.

Over the years Jane has gained valuable experience of working within the defence and aerospace industries and has held senior communications posts at BAE Systems Avionics and Finmeccanica’s SELEX GALILEO. Having completed a Masters dissertation on the subject of the defence industry and its reputation she has a strong knowledge of the PR issues facing the sector and a proven track record of commitment to the industry. Prior to setting up her own consultancy, Jane was Head of External Communications for SELEX GALILEO UK, a major defence and homeland security electronics company. Over a period of more than five years, she was responsible for all external public relations and dealt extensively with media and government at strategic, national and local levels and has a wide network of contacts throughout government, the media and industry trade bodies.

Jane has also worked within the public sector and was responsible for managing communications within Fife Acute Hospitals Trust from 2005 to 2006 where she was involved in a major public involvement campaign about the future of Fife’s health services. She also dealt with a number of high profile news events and advised NHS Fife about crisis management and media relations.

Jane is a qualified Journalist, retaining her membership of the NUJ, and has worked in the news media. She presented a current affairs programme, Eikon, for four years on Scottish Television and has worked for the BBC and ITN on reporting assignments. Jane began her journalism career with the Scotsman Publications Group and reported on stories for many of their titles including Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News.
