Martin Newman has over 30 years of experience in PR and marketing communications. He is a former regional chairman and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
A former managing director of Paragon Communications North West, Quadrant Marketing Communications and Prophecy PR, he has wide experience in international media relations working with organisations such as Revision Military, Iturri, Ministry of Defence, GE Plastics, GE Silicones, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres, Automated Packaging Systems and Crufts.
He has also worked on many central and local government PR projects including defence and law enforcement, developing and implementing campaigns, media training and recommending best practise. His knowledge of defence issues is supported by his service in the Reserve Forces in the rank of Colonel. This includes service in the Territorial Army Media Operations Group, commanding the Army Cadet Force PR Unit, writing and establishing PR courses for regular and reserve officers and senior NCOs and until recently served as a special PR advisor to the Director of Reserve Forces and Cadets in the Ministry of Defence.
His work with the military has included commanding a ‘home theatre’ media office during the first Gulf War, advising senior regional commanders during the Strategic Defence Review and the Foot and Mouth outbreak and advising civil servants and general rank officers on the development of the Service sponsored Cadet Forces and youth projects. An associate of CMS Strategic, he has also worked with Mike Peters on sensitive crisis media training issues and scenarios for Rolls Royce and Imperial College London, and has advised local authorities and three police authorities on their media handling in the wake of the race riots in the North West.
